How to Make Whipped Cream

If you check our blogs, you will find several publications that teach you how to make whipped cream at home. However, as a reminder and to avoid making it complicated for you, we show you the step-by-step and handy tips you will undoubtedly value.

Ingredients:

  • One cup of heavy whipping cream (cold) – with over 35% of fat content.
  • Three tablespoons of powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • One teaspoon of Agar-Agar in powder (plant-based gelatin). One teaspoon to thicken 1 cup of liquid.

Utensils:

Bowl, whisk (if whipped by hand), or hand mixer – highly convenient.

Indications before starting:

  • For the whipped cream, we recommend you use powdered sugar preferably. Confectioner’s sugar is preferred to granulated sugar because the small amount of cornstarch in the former discourages the weeping that occurs when whipped cream stands for longer than a few hours. A hint of vanilla is imperative.
  • Before mixing ingredients, we suggest you cool your utensils, including the heavy cream. Chill them for about 20 minutes in the fridge. The mixture won’t whip appropriately and get that fluffy texture if the cream is not cold enough.

Step-by-Step to Making Homemade Whipped Cream

  1. If you decide to use Agar-Agar, start by dissolving the one tablespoon indicated into warm water at medium-high heat. Set this mix in the microwave for 20 seconds or simmer until it thickens considerably. Some preparations require it to boil for about five to seven minutes.
  2. Take the utensils chilled in the fridge and prepare the quantities listed above. Take into account that these quantities are for a single batch. You might need to reconsider them if you need to create more significant amounts of whipped cream.
  3. Mix the heavy whipping cream with the Agar-Agar and beat until it thickens. Do not look for peak creation in this part; you want to give your cream some structure.
  4. Add the powdered sugar when the cream is thickened, just before the soft peak stage. Preferably powdered sugar for a better end.
  5. Continue beating, and now add the 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  6. Ensure you have quite the soft peaks you wish and slow down with beating. It is crucial not to over-beat your mix; you don’t want to get butter instead of whipped cream, right?
  7. At this point, we are looking to have firm peaks ready. By this, we mean when the cream has its form firmly when lifted with a spatula.
  8. Have you crossed out the previous point? Your batch is then ready! Serve the whipped cream!

Last but not least, we do have some life-saving advice for you. If you are not supposed to use the mix immediately, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator; you might need to re-whip slightly before serving. Keep it a full three days.
